Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Swiftin.

No. Page, selection, and input translation work without an account using Google + Bing. An account adds AI-quality translation (50K tokens/month free) and TTS voices.
A token is roughly 4 English characters or 1–2 CJK characters. Your current usage shows in the toolbar popup with a progress bar.
Swiftin falls back to Google + Bing automatically. You're never blocked from translating, just from using AI for it until next month's reset.
Almost. You can exclude any site per-feature in settings, and sensitive hosts (banking, password managers) skip input translation by default.
Bilingual shows original and translation side by side. Translation-only replaces the original. Switch in the popup's Translate card.
Local, on-device history is available on every plan (off by default) — turn it on per-source (input, selection). Server-side cloud sync is Team-only, enabled by a team owner and kept at most 90 days. On Free and Pro, history stays local and never touches our servers.
Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite, GPT-5 nano, Claude Haiku 4.5, and Grok 4.3. Switch in settings. DeepSeek and Llama are available via BYOK (bring your own key): DeepSeek with your own DeepSeek key, and Llama through the OpenRouter engine with your own OpenRouter key. Full current list with hosting details at /sub-processors.
Chat translation requires Pro or Team. Free users can still use page, selection, and input translation.
